Panfilov wins $30,000 at international competition

Alexander Panfilov was one of the prize-winners at the inaugural International Music Competition Harbin (IMCH).

Announced last week, the 2016 alum was awarded second prize – including $30,000 – in the keyboard category after no first prize was given.

Co-hosted by the Harbin Municipal Government and Harbin Conservatory of Music, the competition is divided into three sections: piano, violin and voice. For 2018, 23 violinists, 24 pianists, and 37 singers were selected from 352 submissions from more than 31 countries. The judging panel for the keyboard category included alum Peter Donohoe, Arnaldo Cohen and Dang Thai.

Preliminary rounds took place at the new Harbin Conservatory of Music, with the semi-finals and finals at the Harbin Concert hall alongside the Harbin Symphony Orchestra and the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra.
