Philip Higham is SCO’s New Principal Cello

The 2010 graduate is one of three new musicians to join the SCO at the start of its 2016/17 season, alongside Marcus Barcham Stevens (Principal Second Violin) and Felix Tanner (Sub-Principal Viola).
Philip, who has performed as a soloist with orchestras including the Philharmonic, Hallé, Royal Northern Sinfonia and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, said: ‘I am so happy to accept the position of SCO Principal Cello. It always feels like every player is as invested as the next, and that there is a shared commitment to high quality, passionate music-making.’
