Rebecca Tong wins American Prize in Conducting

Rebecca Tong, RNCM Junior Fellow in Conducting, has won the college/university division of the 2018-19 American Prize in Conducting.

Resident Conductor of the Jakarta Sinfonia Orchestra, Rebecca completed her master’s degree from College – Conservatory of Music under Mark Gibson before joining the RNCM in 2018 to study with Clark Rundell, Mark Heron and Sir Mark Elder, our International Chair in Conducting.

In 2016/17 she was the Conducting Fellow with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and in 2017 was the recipient of David Effron Conducting Fellowship for the Chautauqua Institution working with Timothy Muffitt. Earlier this year, she won one of three newly-established Taki Awards, which comprise a financial prize and support from Marin Alsop and the Taki Fellowship team.
