RNCM Flautist Wins International Competition

RNCM flautist Meera Maharaj has won the 2016 Dutch International Flute Competition.

Held at Adams Flute Centre in Ittervoort between April 13 – 15, the competition is divided into three sections: undergraduate (Bachelor), postgraduate (Master), and young talent.

Following a preliminary round featuring works by Telemann and Jolivet, Meera performed Frank Martin’s Ballad and Berio’s Sequenza to secure the First Prize in the undergraduate category. In addition to 2000 euros, the 20-year-old third year, who was accompanied by RNCM pianist Jeremy So, was also awarded the Forum Flute and Piano Award.
