RNCM nominated for two Manchester Culture Awards
We’re proud to share that the RNCM has been shortlisted for two Manchester Culture Awards: Best Performance (Bernstein’s Mass at The Bridgewater Hall) and Young Creative of the Year (Fehintola Charis, RNCM Young Artists mentor).
Forming a key part of our 50th anniversary performance programme, over 250 RNCM musicians and young singers from Chetham’s School of Music came together at The Bridgewater Hall in March to present the Manchester premiere of Bernstein’s Mass. The epic production, conducted by Clark Rundell with special guest vocalist William Dazeley, included a full symphony orchestra and chorus, jazz and pop band, and street choir.
Fehintola joined our Young Artists pilot project in April 2022 and was immediately committed to encouraging and inspiring her peers, despite taking on new challenges herself. RNCM Young Artists officially launched in September 2022 and Fehintola was awarded a place, quickly becoming an inspirational member.
In addition to attending her own workshop sessions, Fehintola also attended workshops to mentor and support younger participants in years 7-9, encouraging them to be more confident in their musical skills. Earlier this year, she was shortlisted in the Young Mentor of the Year category at the Manchester Youth Buzz Awards.
