RNCM partner shortlisted for Music Teacher Award

Congratulations to our professional partner, the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain (NWOGB), shortlisted for a 2018 Music Teacher Award for Excellence.

Nominated for the Best Classical Music Education Initiative Award, the NWOGB is the UK’s premier youth wind orchestra, bringing together some of the finest young woodwind, brass and percussion players aged 14 to 21.

In October last year the RNCM announced a new three year professional partnership with the organisation, to enhance the experience of talented young musicians and promote best practice in wind orchestra development nationally and internationally.

Nick Thompson, RNCM Head of School of Wind, Brass and Percussion, said: ‘I would like to send our warmest congratulations to the National Youth Wind Orchestra on their nomination for the Best Classical Music Education Initiative Award at the 2018 Music Teacher Awards for Excellence.

‘The RNCM has had a long association with the NYWO, through both our staff and students, with many of our students past and present having had the opportunity to play and develop their skills with this excellent ensemble. We wish them all the best for the awards in February.’

Alex Stevens, Editor of Music Teacher magazine and Chair of the judging panel, said: ‘This year’s awards showcase just how flexible and useful music can be, as well as highlighting the inspiring work of teachers up and down the country. From grime opera to CPR training, not to mention a range of initiatives aiming to widen access to a high-quality music education, the nominees provide a useful snapshot of our resilient cultural education sector.’

The winners will be announced on 22 February 2018 at a gala ceremony at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel, Mayfair.
