RNCM Pianist Receives Yamaha Scholarship
Third year pianist Hayley Parkes has been named as the latest recipient of a prestigious Yamaha Scholarship.
Hailing from Burton-on-Trent, Hayley previously studied at Chetham’s School of Music and has a busy schedule of performances planned for 2016. She began studying the piano at the age of nine and is now an active and versatile performer, playing across the UK as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist. She has already performed at The Bridgewater Hall, The Sage in Gateshead, BBC Proms and Royal Festival Hall.
‘To receive support from such an esteemed company as Yamaha is a great honour,’ said the 20-year-old. ‘Knowing that fantastic individuals believe in my current work and encourage all possible opportunities that lie on the horizon is also a privilege. I very much hope this will be the start of a fruitful relationship and will do everything I can to be a great asset to Yamaha.’
Hayley will receive a £2000 scholarship to be used to further her studies and support her growing recital programme.
Yamaha’s Leanne Barrell commented: ‘We are always keen to support excellence in the next generation of emerging Pianists. Hayley is an exceptional talent and we look forward to helping her reach new heights.’
Professor Linda Merrick, RNCM Principal, added: ‘Hayley has already achieved so much during her time at the College, and it is wonderful that she is being recognised in this way. Yamaha has supported a number of exceptional RNCM students over the years and Hayley can be extremely proud to add her name the list.’
