RNCM Students Perform for Chinese President and First Lady During State Visit

Four RNCM students performed at Manchester Town Hall on Friday 23 October for Xi Jinping, Lady Peng Liyuan and Prime Minister David Cameron.

The Chinese President and First Lady enjoyed lunch at the stunning venue alongside more than 200 businesses, civic leaders and community representatives from across the north of England and China during his state visit to the city.

Cellist Lucy Arch, violinists Lily Whitehurst and Elaine Ambridge, and violist Jessica Thornhill performed outside the Great Hall as guests, including RNCM Principal Professor Linda Merrick, arrived and left.

Lucy said: ‘It was a privilege to perform for President Xi Jinping and Lady Peng Liyuan. Representing the RNCM at an occasion like this was fantastic and something we’ll all remember for a long time.’
