Conducted by Edward Gardner and featuring RNCM alumna Alwyn Mellor in the role of Tove, the performance received a 5* review in The Telegraph, with critic John Allison stating that it was a ‘spectacular account of Schoenberg’s work.’

The concert, part of the Philharmonic’s 250th anniversary celebrations, was streamed live on Friday 11 December and has been recorded by Chandos for release next year.

Led by Kevin Thraves, RNCM Head of Music Staff in the School of Vocal Studies and Opera who acted as assistant chorus master for the project, the singers involved were tenors Simon Billet, Ryan Davies, Cillian Donaghy, Jamse Hendry, Ryan Hunt, Tom Loughlin, Matthew Palfreyman and Joseph Spratt, and basses Isaac Archer, Christopher Gascoyne, Oliver Gildea, Steven Griffin, Philip Jackson, Matthew Nuttall, Aaron O’Hare and Ed Robinson.
