RNCM Tenor Wins International Competition
Second year tenor Kamil Bien has won the inaugural International Individual Vocal Competition of Sacred Music, Ars et Gloria.
Held at the K Szymanowski Academy of Music in Kamil’s hometown of Katowice, Poland, between 6 and 10 January, the competition featured 100 students from music schools and colleges worldwide and was divided into three categories. Kamil, who studies with Nicholas Powell, competed against 40 singers in the 19 – 28 category, winning 2000 zł and a summer masterclass opportunity with Professor Thomas Heyer from the Hochschule für Musik ind Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt.
He said: ‘It was a privilege to take part in the Ars et Gloria, particularly as it took place in my native city of Katowice, Poland. I am overwhelmed to have won this prestigious competition, as I was competing against some fantastic vocalists, and feel it is testament to the world-class tuition I have received at the RNCM.’
