Sarah Lenton Receives Harry Mortimer Award
Horn player Sarah Lenton has been awarded the RNCM’s Harry Mortimer Award.
Established by the College in association with the Harry Mortimer Trust Committee, the Award is presented each year to a student who is recognised as the ‘best overall rounded brass player.’ It takes into account recital performances, general attitude, engagement and attendance and is judged by the Harry Mortimer Trust Committee.
Sarah, a fourth year student who is also Solo Baritone for Foden’s Band, was presented with the £500 grant prior to the results ceremony at the British Open, which she says will go towards a new commission for baritone and band from American composer Nate Kimball.
She said: ‘I am extremely flattered to be given this award as the standard at the RNCM is very high. I am also looking forward to working with Nate Kimball on my commission which will be a brilliant piece that I will perform with Foden’s. I would also like to thank John Miller and the Trust Committee for their decision.’
