Simon Davies returns as Tutor in Contrabassoon

Alum Simon Davies has made a welcome return to the RNCM this term, joining our School of Wind, Brass and Percussion as a Tutor in Contrabassoon.

Graduating in 2005, Simon studied bassoon with Alan Pendlebury and David Chatwin and contrabassoon with Nick Lander. Since 2017 he has held the position of contrabassoon with the Hallé, a role he previously enjoyed with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and has worked as a freelance musician with the BBC Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Scottish Chamber, London Symphony and Mahler Chamber Orchestras.

Simon takes up the new role with immediate effect, replacing Bill Anderson, who steps down after several years in post.

Kevin Gowland, Deputy Head of Wind, Brass and Percussion and Director of Woodwind, said: ‘I am delighted that Simon is joining our team of tutors; we are all very much looking forward to working with him. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Bill for his fantastic contribution to the School over the past few years.’
