Soprano secures second place in Glyndebourne Cup

Congratulations to soprano Alexandra Lowe, awarded second prize in the 2020 Glyndebourne Opera Cup.

The 2017 alum performed ‘Assisa a piè d’un salice’ from Otello, ‘Que vois-je là? Je ris de me voir si belle (Jewel Song)’ from Faust and ‘In quali eccessi… Mi tradì quell’alma ingrata’ from Don Giovanni during Saturday’s final, which was broadcast live on Sky Arts.

With a renewed commitment to finding diverse singers of the future, the annual competition aims to discover and spotlight the next generation of ‘international operatic talent’.

The jury included top industry professionals Joan Matabosch, Artistic Director of Teatro Real in Madrid and Michel Franck, General Director of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in France, as well as singers Sir Thomas Allen and Dame Felicity Lott.

One of six singers to make the final, Alexandra, who joins the Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in September, walked away with a fantastic £10,000.
