Soprano wins $20,000 at New Zealand competition
Soprano Eliza Boom has won $20,000 at the Lexus Song Quest in New Zealand.
The 24-year-old, who’s just completed a Master of Music as a Leverhulme Scholar, performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra during the competition, which offers a prize pool of $90,000 in cash and study scholarships.
Eliza’s $20,000 included the $10,000 Malvina Major Foundation prize and a $10,000 study scholarship. The title has previously been awarded to Dame Malvina Major, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Phillip Rhodes, Jonathan Lemalu and Sol3 Mio’s Amitai Pati.
Eliza (pictured above in RNCM Opera’s production of Hansel and Gretel) returns to the College in September to study for an International Artist Diploma.
