Wigmore Hall Masterclass with Wolfgang Holzmair

Postgraduate soprano Michaela Parry and pianist Simon Passmore were selected to take part in a masterclass with Austrian baritone Wolfgang Holzmair at Wigmore Hall last month.

The class focussed on repertoire by Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Wolf and Strauss, and included a public showcase concert for all participants.

Michaela, who is studying for an MMus in Solo Performance, said: ‘The whole experience was incredible. Wigmore Hall was acoustically the best place we’ve ever performed in, meaning we really felt we were making music.

‘Simon and I have never worked together before but we really enjoyed the experience and are hoping to work together in the future. The opportunity to perform our favourite Lieder in such a prestigious venue with Wolfgang Holzmair was invaluable. Hearing duos from the other colleges was great too, and one thing we were both in awe of was all the signed photographs in the dressing room and green room of the famous people who have performed there. Very inspiring!’
