Zelkova Wins St Martin’s Chamber Music Competition

Congratulations to the Zelkova Quartet, winners of the Main Prize at the St Martin’s Chamber Music Competition.

Comprising alumni Caroline Pether (violin), Ed Pether (violin) and Jonathan Pether (cello), and postgraduate Alex Mitchell (viola), Zelkova performed works by Haydn and Debussy to secure the main prize, which offers the opportunity for the quartet to develop their own professional performance profile of concerts around the UK.

Now in its eighth year, the St Martin’s Chamber Music Competition is well and truly established in the ambitions of young musicians and in the diaries of London concertgoers. It embodies St Martin-in-the-Fields’ commitment to the discovery, nurture and promotion of new and emerging musical talent, continuing a long history of musical excellence and artistic contribution at this iconic Church in the heart of London.

Making Music has supported the competition since its inception and has been instrumental in providing concert opportunities for the winners alongside the recipients of the Philip & Dorothy Green Award for Young Concert Artists.
