Jennifer Langridge is Head of Strings Chamber Music and Professor of Cello. She lives in Manchester, she studied at the Royal Northern College of Music where she was awarded the Barbirolli Prize for Cello. She went on to become a Junior Fellow of the RNCM as part of the Nossek String Quartet.
For 30 years, until 2023, Jennifer was principal cello of Psappha Ensemble. The group toured to five continents performing and championing new music, featured regularly on BBC Radio 3 and made numerous CD recordings. Psappha Ensemble’s YouTube channel hosts more than 300 films of their live concerts. Jen often performed as soloist with Psappha, most notably at the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms, playing Maxwell Davies, ‘Linguae Ignis’ for Solo Cello and Ensemble.
Jen was a member of the Victoria String Quartet until 2024, with VSQ she recorded and toured extensively around the UK and at home in Manchester, performing in venues such as The Stoller Hall and the Bridgewater Hall. She was a member of the BBC Philharmonic for 10 years until 2018 and has worked as guest Principal for orchestras such as Royal Northern Sinfonia, Opera North and Manchester Camerata. She is now the Principal Cello of the Northern Chamber Orchestra.
Jen is a highly experienced and dedicated teacher; she has a special interest in the psychology behind performance, including how to handle adrenaline and also in effective practice techniques. Jen is also a chamber music coach at the RNCM.
