Ross Knight
International Visiting Professor of Tuba
Ross Knight, from Carnoustie in Scotland, has held the position of Solo Tuba of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva since 2016. He has also been Principal Tuba with both the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (2015-17) and European Union Youth Orchestra (2012-15), and has performed with orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony (where he was on trial for one and a half years), Philharmonia, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Tonhalle, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Deutsches Symphonie, and Bournemouth Symphony.
A first-class graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Ross continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, during which time he was awarded the position of Tuba Academist at the prestigious Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. In recent years he has given masterclasses at the RNCM, RAM, RCM, Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon, the Haute École de Musique de Genève and the Escola de Música do Estado de São Paulo in Brazil. In 2019, Ross was the tuba tutor of the Australian Youth Orchestra as part of their European and China Tour.
