Professor of Clarinet

Sergio Castelló López was born in Xàtiva, Spain, in 1994. He studied clarinet with Michel Arrignon and Enrique Pérez at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid.

While Sergio was a student he was awarded several first prizes at music competitions, and also started playing in youth orchestras like the European Union Youth Orchestra and Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.

In 2015 Sergio left college to become principal clarinet at l’Opéra de Limoges, in France, until 2016 when he joined the Hallé as principal clarinet. With the Hallé he has played several concertos as a soloist and has also recorded Debussy’s Première Rhapsodie for the Hallé label.

Sergio regularly plays as a guest with other orchestras such as London Philharmonic Orchestra, RLPO, Royal Northern Sinfonia and Scottish Chamber Orchestra.. He has also played at several music festivals including Lucerne Festival, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Musikverein and the BBC Proms in London.

Aside from his work with the orchestra Sergio enjoys playing chamber music and teaching. He is a tutor at Chethams School of Music and gives masterclasses regularly in UK conservatoires.
