About
Part of RNCM International Brass Band Festival.
Hailing from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, Cory Band is one of the oldest and best-known brass bands in the world.
This evocative programme opens with an homage to Ravel in Philip Sparke’s Raveling, Unraveling. Themes from La Valse provide a structural undercurrent to the piece as it travels through ever-increasing tempi to a whirlwind finish.
Virtuoso trombonist Brett Baker then takes centre stage, bringing Philip Wilby’s Light Fantastic to life. The piece celebrates the life, energy, and influence of eminent scientist and industrialist Canon Dr Colin Harrison.
Cory Band rounds off this programme with two world premieres: Mark Boden’s brass band version of Descent and Richard Blackford’s Orbital.
