Award-winning pianist and composer Nikki Iles performed with her quintet – along with Andy Schofield and Mike Walker – at the very first mjf in 1996! 25 years on, she brings her 18-piece Jazz Orchestra to the festival, welcoming back those very same players and marking a new chapter in a long and distinguished career in British jazz.
She has gathered together commissions, new orchestrations and compositions, alongside music by Steely Dan and Vince Mendoza, for the remarkable band she has assembled. The depth and range of her distinctive writing and arranging make for an exhilarating night of music, bought to vivid life by a top-draw band.
‘A formidable UK jazz presence rising to her full height.’ John Fordham, The Guardian
