About
A fusion of dance, electronics, and live music, this multidisciplinary event brings performance to life with dancers from Company Chameleon alongside RNCM musicians. Blending movement, sound, and technology, this bold live music experience pushes the boundaries.
Flowers of Battle reimagines the Spartan agoge as a world of ritual, desire, and becoming. Scored for four dancers, string quartet, brass trio, percussion, and electronics, the work moves between militaristic precision and dreamlike intimacy, tracing how individuals are shaped by discipline, expectation, competition, and love. Drawing on ancient myths and martial traditions, the piece reveals enduring patterns that connect antiquity to the present. Flowers of Battle asks what we inherit from violence and what is sacrificed in its name.
In Steve Reich’s 90th birthday year, celebrated worldwide, the programme also features his groundbreaking Different Trains, in which speech and music powerfully intertwine and opens with Anna Meredith’s sweeping Tuggemo – named after an old English word for a swarm of birds or flies.
Flowers of Battle is funded by RPS Drummond Lockyer Fund for Dance.
