Sally Beamish In Focus: Works for Solo and Duo
Thursday 20 October 2022, 6.00pm
Carole Nash Recital Room

Celebrated British composer Sally Beamish joins us for an in-depth conversation and performances of her works for solo strings by RNCM students as part of our In Focus festival.
Awuya for solo harp delves into the sound world of African drumbeats and lullabies in a creative expression of Professor Keith Vickerman’s landmark study of African Sleeping Sickness. Next, Unquiet offers an exhilarating set of variations for solo guitar based on John Dowland’s lute song, Unquiet Thoughts. The evening closes with a fresh interpretation of a Scottish folk tune but not before a glimpse into the next generation of composers with a new work by student Chris Cooke.
Programme to include:
Sally Beamish Awuya for solo harp (short version)
Sally Beamish Unquiet for solo guitar
Chris Cook New work for solo viola
Sally Beamish Gala Water for solo cello
