About
Can regret ever be overcome?
Eugene Onegin explores the conflict between the romantic ideals we all cherish and the harsh realities of life, based on Pushkin’s 19th century literary classic.
It’s the story of a young, bookish country girl, Tatyana, who meets and falls for the cynical Eugene Onegin, a worldly young man from the city. When Eugene, uninterested in marriage, rejects Tatyana’s passionate declaration of love, she is left humiliated. This is made worse when Eugene causes trouble at her birthday ball, resulting in a duel which has deadly consequences.
After many years, a guilty and broken Eugene Onegin returns and encounters a sophisticated Tatyana, now married. He is captivated by her transformation. But has he realised his affection all too late?
Experience Tchaikovsky’s beloved opera in a fully staged production rich in lyricism, colourful dances, and poignant drama.
