Two of Britain’s most celebrated brass bands unite for a sparkling evening of music, as Stockport’s renowned Fairey Band joins forces with Scottish National Champions Whitburn Band.

The programme features music including Dean Goffin’s virtuosic Rhapsody for Brass, a work that demonstrates the full symphonic potential of the brass band medium, as well as Gilbert Vinter’s much loved piece Vizcaya, which is based on the folk music of the Basque region of south-west France.

The concert will also include individual solos by outstanding musicians from both the Fairey and Whitburn band. The concert is concluded with the rousing finale from Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony. The concert marks the 70th birthday of Fairey cornet player Jimmy Leggat. Jimmy, originally from Whitburn, has spent over 43 continuous years playing with the Fairey band.
