Davide Sciacca

Davide’s research examines early 19th century guitar repertoire inspired by the operas of Sicilian composer Vincenzo Bellini. This project will bring to light much forgotten and otherwise rarely performed repertoire.

This research seeks to demonstrate through performance that these compositions include works of considerable artistic value and can find a meaningful place in contemporary guitarists’ repertoire.

As part of his research Davide will produce recordings comprising both solo and chamber repertoire, performing on instruments which are faithful reproductions of those on which the music was intended to be performed. The large number of these works have never been recorded.

Davide is a guitarist who performs internationally and teaches in Italy, working regularly with the Vincenzo Bellini Conservatory in Caltanissetta and the Pietro Vinci Musical Institute in Caltagirone, where he is professor of Guitar. He published a historical-musicological treatise A scuola di Chitarra in 2015 and in 2018 recorded Counter Irish Project, a series of original works and arrangements of Irish songs for Countertenor and Guitar. Davide hails from Catania, Sicily, the birthplace of Bellini.
