Creative Engagement
Our Creative Engagement activities bring people together through shared artistic experiences, creating opportunities for children, young people, and adults to connect, collaborate, and thrive through music.
These programmes also provide valuable training and professional development opportunities for RNCM students, equipping the next generation of musicians with the skills, experience, and confidence to lead creative projects, work with diverse communities, and make a meaningful social impact through their practice.
From the award-winning RNCM Children’s Opera, where primary school pupils create and perform their own original opera, to the RNCM Community Chorus, which welcomes singers of all abilities to perform and create together, creative engagement initiatives help break down barriers to participation, build confidence, and strengthen community through creativity, while enabling our students to develop their artistic, educational, and leadership skills in real-world settings.
RNCM Children’s Opera
The RNCM Children’s Opera is one of the most impactful and special projects within our access and participation programme, RNCM Engage. Now in its 17th year, this award-winning initiative is dedicated to expanding access to arts education in local primary schools while nurturing the next generation of arts educators.
With the help of composer Kate Pearson and an array of RNCM students from all disciplines, the children write the script, compose the songs, and choreograph the action ready for two performances in the RNCM Theatre.

RNCM Community Chorus
Rehearsing every Wednesday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, the RNCM Community Chorus works towards a range of performances, pop-up concerts, and staged productions across Manchester each year. Alongside singing, members can get involved in all aspects of performance, from helping backstage to writing new songs and shaping future projects.
Whether you’ve been singing for years, are a complete beginner, or simply want to meet new people in a relaxed environment, we’d love to hear from you. Membership is free, open to anyone aged 18 or over, and no prior experience is required. To get involved, complete the Community Chorus Registration Form or email our Creative Engagement Team.
