Dance:Music

Dance and music are inextricably linked, each amplifying the other’s power to evoke emotion and tell a story.

From the very first note, music sets the emotional stage for dance, guiding the movements and mood. Dancers respond instinctively, translating melodies and rhythms into visual art that speaks directly to the audience’s hearts.

This relationship is symbiotic: music gives dance its structure, while dance provides a vivid, physical manifestation of the music. Each step, each gesture, is a response to the music’s ebb and flow, its highs and lows.

Across cultures and genres, this partnership shines. Flamenco’s passionate rhythms, ballet’s ethereal grace, and modern dance’s bold innovations all demonstrate how music and movement can create something greater than the sum of their parts.

This year, we’re celebrating this powerful synergy by exploring joyous and diverse music inspired by dance. Our performance programme will feature pieces born from dance or created alongside dancers. We’re excited to collaborate with the imaginative Clod Ensemble and the innovative Manchester-based Company Chameleon, bringing RNCM musicians together with and providing opportunities for our students to explore movement themselves. Dance will also be reflected in many projects throughout the year, with students channelling their creativity into Spotlights and Lunchtimes concerts, each reflecting the primal energy that dance and movement can harness and unleash.
