About Matthew
Born in Borneo in 1981, Matthew moved to Australia when he was twelve and later graduated from Melbourne University in 2004. Matthew later moved to England in 2005 for further postgraduate training at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he was a Junior Fellow. He remains grateful to his former tutors Helen Krizos and Max Cooke (pupil of Alfred Cortot in the 1950s), and to Nigel Evans, for cementing his love for music forever.
In the past, Matthew has had the fortune to perform in many countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, the USA and the UK as a solo recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist. A prizewinner of many competitions in England, Malaysia, Austria and Australia, Matthew has also produced CD recording for the Schimmel Artists Collection. Together with Helen Krizos, he has also recorded on the film soundtrack to “Of Time and the City”, the late Terence Davies’ award-winning homage to Liverpool (British Film Institute). Matthew has broadcast live on ABC Classic FM (Australia), MBS FM Network (Australia), and BBC Radio 3 (UK), and made Malaysian television appearances. His playing has won favourable reviews including a personal letter from the late Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara.
Matthew has been teaching the piano on Saturdays to Junior School students at the Royal Northern College of Music since 2009.
