Principal’s Circle
Our Principal’s Circle brings together a dedicated community of music lovers whose collective generosity has a meaningful impact on our students’ experience.
Becoming a member of the Principal’s Circle is a rewarding way to support the RNCM and its students. Collectively, Principal’s Circle members fund exceptional opportunities beyond the core curriculum that prepare our musicians for successful futures and ensure that the RNCM remains at the forefront of music education.
Play Your Part
The generosity of the Principal’s Circle has made the following projects a reality. Without this support, these unique opportunities for students would not have been possible:
- Professional experience opportunities through collaborations with Northern Ballet and Opera North, giving students valuable real-world experiences.
- Innovative and forward-thinking artists working with our students in new and exciting ways, including award-winning sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun, performance company Clod Ensemble, and poet Louise Wallwein MBE.
- Travel for students to perform and audition across the world, from a brass internship in Uganda to the Nordic Saxophone Festival in Scandinavia
- Vital building and infrastructure updates, including a new reed room, the digitisation of thousands of historic performance recordings, and the purchase of an upright Yamaha piano for a student practice room.
- Commissioning new compositions, including for the RNCM Wind Orchestra during the RNCM’s 50th anniversary, and new works inspired by research into how music can support people living with Parkinson’s.

How to Join
We welcome those who give between £1,000 and £5,000 per year to join the Principal’s Circle. As a thank you for your generosity, you will receive:
- Invitations to exclusive events throughout the year, including opportunities to see first-hand the projects you have helped support, and to experience teaching in action with masterclasses from internationally renowned artists;
- Opportunities to meet RNCM students and Principal, Professor Linda Merrick CBE; and
- Regular updates demonstrating the real-world impact of your support.
