Our degree programmes go beyond technical excellence and artistic creativity. They embed transferrable skills – such as communication, collaboration, adaptability, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking – that support students to develop strong portfolio careers through a combination of performance, teaching, project management, and self-promotion.
We also place strong emphasis on resilience, networking, and digital literacy, equipping graduates to navigate and thrive within a competitive global economy.
RNCM Futures+
RNCM Futures+ is our dedicated hub for graduates and emerging artists, supporting the transition from student to professional musician through career development, training, and a suite of paid opportunities for early-career artists.
With the generous support of Purposeful Ventures, the programme also includes a dedicated strand of targeted support (from 2026-2029) for classical musicians facing financial barriers.
Professional Experience Schemes
Our Professional Experience Schemes give senior students the opportunity to gain invaluable real-world experience as ensemble musicians.
Each year, more than 60 students undertake placements with our orchestral partners, gaining first-hand insight into professional life through auditions, rehearsals, education projects and public performances.
We’re proud of the strong relationships we’ve built with orchestras and ensembles across Europe. These partnerships play a vital role in supporting the profession, helping students make the transition from conservatoire training to careers as the next generation of world-class musicians.
Entrepreneurship
The RNCM Creative Innovators Award supports students with ambitious ideas, projects, and start-up ventures that have the potential to make a significant impact in the music industry. Through a competitive pitching process judged by industry professionals, students develop entrepreneurial skills, confidence, and real-world experience in presenting and refining their ideas. The award provides funding and expert feedback to help turn creative concepts into sustainable projects, empowering students to become innovative leaders, changemakers, and future entrepreneurs.

RNCM Engage
RNCM Engage is our award-winning access and participation programme, designed to widen access to high-quality music education while creating meaningful learning opportunities for current students. Through mentoring, workshops, and community projects, RNCM students work with children, young people, families, schools, and community groups, developing valuable skills in teaching, leadership, communication, and artistic facilitation. These experiences deepen students’ understanding of music’s social impact while helping them build confidence, versatility, and professional expertise.
RNCM Artist Agency
The RNCM Artist Agency gives students and graduates the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience through paid performance engagements at concerts, corporate events, weddings, receptions, and festivals. Working with real clients and audiences, musicians develop their performance skills, professionalism, confidence, and industry networks while earning income and building their portfolios.
Collaboration
Collaboration remains one of the most important components of conservatoire education.
Working together not only sparks creativity and heightens technical ability, but it also helps students to broaden their artistic perspectives, develop vital communication and interpersonal skills, and build confidence among peers.
