Watch: Luthiers Live

Over the past few days, four of the world’s finest instrument makers (William Castle, Kai-Thomas Roth, Marc Soubeyran and Tibor Szemmelveisz) have been busy creating two new violins, thanks to a generous bequest by Thomas Jellis.

Due for completion on Thursday 8 March, one is based on a 1668 Stainer model, and the other on the 1742 ‘Alard’ Guarneri del Gesù’. After varnishing, they will be added to the RNCM collection for loan to our students.

The project is part of this weekend’s RNCM Chamber Music Festival, where guided tours will be able to visit the workshop and see the finished instruments.
