Philippe Tondre appointed RNCM Buffet Crampon International Chair in Oboe
We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Philippe Tondre as the RNCM Buffet Crampon International Chair in Oboe.
Philippe has secured a place among the finest musicians of his generation. In addition to his role as Principal Oboe with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the SWR Symphony Orchestra and the Saito Kinen Orchestra Matsumoto, he is also a member of the Mito Chamber Orchestra and the newly-founded Kammer Ensemble Paris. Prior to this, he was Solo Oboe with both the Budapest Festival Orchestra (2014 – 2020) and Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig (2016 – 17).
Kevin Gowland, Director of Woodwind, said: ‘I’m absolutely delighted that internationally-renowned oboist Philippe Tondre has accepted our invitation to become Buffet Crampon International Chair in Oboe at the RNCM.
‘We are hugely appreciative of the commitment Philippe is making to us given his extremely busy schedule and I know that all our oboe students, tutors and everyone in SWBP is extremely excited to be having Philippe visit and work at the College on a regular basis. I’m sure that there will be many creative, happy and enriching experiences along the way.’
Philippe, who’s position is the result of an ongoing partnership between the RNCM and Buffet Crampon, is one of several new appointments to our School of Wind, Brass and Percussion.
Earlier this month we announced that Paul Turner and Emil Kuyumcuyan were joining as Tutor in Timpani and Visiting Tutor in Snare Drum respectively, and we’re thrilled to extend this welcome to Sergio Castello Lopez (Hallé Principal Clarinet) and Gary MacPhee (BBC Philharmonic Sub Principal Trombone) too.
