Anna Appleby

Anna Appleby is composing an opera with poet Niall Campbell for performance with the BBC Philharmonic and RNCM Singers.

Anna’s doctoral research is jointly supervised by Professor Emily Howard, and Professor Michael Symmons Roberts (Manchester Metropolitan University).

This research features her collaboration with poet Niall Campbell, and will culminate in the opera Drought, to be premiered in October 2022 with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and RNCM Singers.

Alongside this collaboration research, Anna is investigating approaches to electronic music in both opera and pop music, including collaborating with PRiSM SampleRNN and PRiSM Research Software Engineer Dr Christopher Melen.

She also collaborated with mathematical biologist Professor Rachel Bearon, as part of PRiSM 8 Cubed in 2020/21.
