RNCM Innovate Fellow

We’re delighted to welcome virtuoso sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun as the RNCM’s first Innovate Fellow.

Recognised for breaking down cultural boundaries with his extraordinary artistry and approach to composition, Jasdeep brings a new energy and vision to both Indian classical and contemporary music.

Over the next two years he will work with RNCM students to enhance their understanding of musical cultures outside the Western tradition, teaching them new ways of working through workshops and collaborative projects.

A pupil of Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE, Jasdeep is redefining genres and remains passionate about exposing music from his heritage to audiences worldwide. Signed to Real World Records, Jasdeep released his much anticipated debut album Anomaly in May 2022, working under the guidance of celebrated musician and producer Nitin Sawhney. He is Artist-in-Residence at Opera North, and in 2022 was composer, co-music director and soloist in Opera North and South Asian Arts-uk’s acclaimed opera Orpheus. This production garnered five-star reviews and earned Jasdeep a 2022 Critics’ Circle Music Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera.
