RNCM instrument-specific short courses

The RNCM will run a series of instrument-specific short courses next spring, led by some of the country’s leading tutors and performers.

A day dedicated to the cornet will take place on Sunday 29 March, while Sunday 19 April hosts courses for euphonium, French horn, tenor horn, trombone and percussion.

Designed for players who are considering conservatoire study, planning a career in a performance setting or wishing to enhance their musical experience, each course provides exceptional learning opportunities through masterclasses and tuition in technique, performance and ensemble work. Participants will also receive advice on preparing for auditions and performances and have the opportunity to take part in a Q&A with tutors before presenting an informal concert for family and friends.

RNCM short courses are distinctive in the quality of coaching they provide by players and teachers who have reached the highest levels of performance and education in the music industry. They aim to develop in participants the importance of a whole mind and body approach to communicating music through their instrument.

From the College’s School of Wind, Brass and Percussion, tutors for 2020 include Professor Roger Webster and Richard Marshall (cornet), Steven Mead and Dr David Thornton (euphonium), Lindsey Stoker (French horn), Owen Farr (tenor horn), Katy Jones and Christian Jones (trombone), and Simone Rebello and Le Yu (percussion).

Each course costs £30 (including all tuition) and is suitable for players who have reached ABRSM Grade 6+ standard (or equivalent). Full information, including an online booking form, is available here.
