Regional Innovation 2023-24

In the 2023-24 academic year, the RNCM supported a variety of Knowledge-Exchange initiatives that focussed specifically upon Research and Development (R&D) activities around Greater Manchester and North West England.

Projects were made possible through the Research England Regional Innovation Fund (RIF), aiming to develop sustainable partnerships between RNCM researchers and non-HE organisations to explore innovative approaches of research-driven business engagement and cross-sector collaboration.

These initiatives resonate strongly with Always, Everywhere: Manchester’s Cultural Ambition 2024-2034, taking diverse approaches to address important issues around:

  1. Environmental health;
  2. Musicians’ well-being;
  3. Digital musical technology and cutting-edge performance infrastructure;
  4. Accessible and diversified musical education.

Through consolidating new and existing partnerships with award-winning community musical charities, technology providers, and world-leading audio system manufactures, among others, these initiatives draw on the RNCM’s world-leading specialists and inter-disciplinary research to inform the future evolution of music and the music profession.
