Make an Application

The specialised training we offer means that securing a place at the RNCM is highly competitive, so it’s important that you understand the necessary entrance requirements and application process in advance.

In brief, all applicants must be over 18 years old by 31 December in the year of entry, demonstrate a high level of performing/composition ability at audition, and meet the minimum academic standards and English Language requirement for the course of choice. For guidance, undergraduate applicants are expected to be of at least Grade 8 standard in their Principal Study instrument, with at least Grade 5 knowledge of music theory.

The application process incorporates a number of stages, outlined in detail within this section.

2024 Entry

Applications for 2024 entry close on 2 October 2023. All applicants must apply via UCAS Conservatoires, followed by an Acceptd submission. Please check the audition requirements for your instrument and course before submitting your Acceptd application.

Please note that the deadline for both your UCAS Conservatoires and Acceptd applications is 2 October 2023 (excluding conducting applications), and your application will not be complete until we have received both submissions.

Conducting applicants should submit their UCAS Conservatoires application by 2 October 2023 and their Acceptd portfolio by Friday 10 November.
