Make an Application

Important for 2020 entry: The standard of applications for the School of Vocal Studies and Opera have been extremely high for 2020 entry. To ensure that we can continue to provide an outstanding education without compromise, we are no longer accepting applications for sopranos. Applications for 2021 entry open in July.

The specialised training we offer means that securing a place at the RNCM is highly competitive, so it’s important that you understand the necessary entrance requirements and application process in advance.

In brief, all applicants must be over 18 years old by 31 December in the year of entry, demonstrate a high level of performing/composition ability at audition, and meet the minimum academic standards and English Language requirement for the course of choice. For guidance, undergraduate applicants are expected to be of at least Grade 8 standard in their Principal Study instrument, with at least Grade 5 knowledge of music theory.

The application process incorporates a number of stages. These are outlined in detail within this section, but if it’s a brief overview you’re after, the video below is an ideal starting point.

Please note: the application deadline for 2020 entry was 1 October 2019. In some cases, late applications may still be considered, please email admissions@rncm.ac.uk for more information.
