Fraser Langton

Professor of Clarinet
Fraser Langton enjoys a diverse career as a performer, teacher, and adjudicator. Since 2015, he has served as Sub-Principal Clarinet and Principal E-flat Clarinet with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, touring internationally and recording extensively for Chandos Records. He has also featured in numerous live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, including many performances at the BBC Proms.
As a guest principal clarinet, Fraser has performed with many of the UK’s leading orchestras, including the RSNO, CBSO, and RNS, as well as with ensembles in Canada and Hong Kong.
He studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under John Cushing (former Principal Clarinet, RSNO), and later received further tuition from Yehuda Gilad. Fraser regularly returns to the RCS as a guest teacher and adjudicator and has also coached woodwinds for NYOS and adjudicated at the Royal Academy of Music.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Fraser has performed at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square, Usher Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Stoller Hall, and the St Magnus International Festival, as well as the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. The Glasgow Herald described him as a ‘wizard of the clarinet’, and his Delphian Records album featuring the clarinet music of Rory Boyle received critical acclaim. Gramophone Magazine praised his ‘sure technique’ and ‘all-encompassing musicianship’, while Clarinet and Saxophone Magazine awarded the recording an Editor’s Choice.
Beyond classical music, Fraser is also passionate about electronic music and regularly performs as a DJ in Manchester and beyond, specialising in House, Disco, Techno, and Electro.
