Extra-Curricular

Each student’s ideas, passions, creativity and motivations are at the heart of their RNCM journey, and we are dedicated to ensuring they have time and space to explore and take risks.

Complementing their degree modules and electives are a number of extra-curricular activities designed to support students’ artistic and professional development.

Activities include:

The RNCM Creative Innovators Award: Sponsored by Yamaha and the RNCM, this annual competition is open to all students, who can pitch their ideas to win part of a £5,000 prize fund, and music industry mentoring. Previously winners include Sam Davies (BMus Popular Music) for the foundation of Untold Orchestra, Kabantu (previously ‘Project Jam Sandwich’), and all-female string quartet Vulva Voce.

Specialist Music and Health Training Programme: Delivered in partnership with Jessie’s Fund and Songbirds, this training scheme equips students with skills to use their musical expertise to embark on leadership roles, and create new possibilities, in music and heath settings.

BEDI Project: This new initiative from our Belonging, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Forum, offers staff and students the chance to work collaboratively to develop an innovative project that brings a service, experience or enhancement not already provided by the RNCM or SU. Successful applications receive funding anywhere between £100 and £2000.
