Royal Northern College of Music Joins British Academy Early Career Researcher Network Consortium
The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) is proud to announce its membership in the British Academy Early Career Researcher Network (BA ECRN) consortium, joining a growing community of institutions committed to supporting early career researchers (ECRs; researchers within ten years of completing their PhD) in the humanities and social sciences across the UK.
The BA ECRN is an inclusive, researcher-led initiative open to all UK-based ECRs, regardless of funding source or background. Since its launch, the Network has expanded across regional clusters including the Midlands, Wales, Scotland, London, and most recently the Northwest and North Wales, North East, and Northern Ireland. In the Northwest region, the Network is delivered in partnership with Lancaster University, Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Manchester, and now the RNCM.
The RNCM’s inclusion marks a significant step in broadening the reach of the Network within the arts and music research community. With over 620 members in the region and more than 6,400 nationwide, the Network offers a vibrant platform for collaboration, development, and support.
Benefits of membership include:
- Access to a national community of over 6,400 ECRs;
- Weekly in-person and online events to support career development;
- An Online Community Platform for networking with researchers, British Academy Fellows, and partners;
- Funding opportunities including up to £5,000 for research activities and up to £3,000 to organise events;
- Travel and accommodation support for attending Network events;
- Participation in the Encourage and Engage group mentorship programme; and
- Up to £200 towards external conference, training, or membership fees.
The RNCM is delighted to be part of this dynamic initiative and looks forward to supporting its early career researchers through the opportunities and connections the Network provides.
