About

Part of RNCM International Brass Band Festival.

RNCM Brass Band welcomes back alumna Katrina Marzella-Wheeler to conduct this exciting musical journey. The programme opens with Philip Sparke’s majestic A London Overture, before a musical deep dive into the extraordinary audience uproar at the premiere of Stravinksy’s Rite of Spring in Simon Dobson’s The Riot at the Rite.

The band are then joined by the winner of the 50th Swiss National Solo & Quartet Championship, Louis Kroni, in Dark and Bright – an expressive exploration of our states of mind and the duality of the world between fragile light and persistent darkness.

Taking off on a voyage to space, Derek Jenkins’ We Seven is inspired by the first American astronauts to successfully travel to the cosmos. A world premiere by Théo Koita then follows before the band closes with the rarely performed gem Gold Saturday by Master of the King’s Music Errollyn Wallen, originally premiered in Manchester by Bollywood Brass.
