Blaize Henry: 1992 – 2026
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of violinist and RNCM alumnus Blaize Henry at the age of 34.
Born in London to Guyanese parents, Blaize began playing the violin at a young age before joining the RNCM as an undergraduate in 2010, where he studied with Steve Wilkie. During his time in Manchester, he developed a distinctive artistic voice and a deep commitment to collaboration that would shape his career as both a performer and educator.
Blaize went on to establish himself as a highly respected chamber musician, performing at leading venues and festivals including Cadogan Hall, the Aldeburgh Festival, and Cardiff Millennium Centre. He was a Junior Fellow of the Pro Corda International Chamber Music Academy, where his work extended beyond performance to teaching, coaching, conducting, and adjudicating.
A long-standing member of the Chineke! Orchestra, Blaize was an inspiring advocate for greater diversity and representation in classical music. In a moving tribute shared on social media, Chineke! said:
‘The Chineke! family is heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Blaize Henry, a violinist, a long time member of our orchestra, and a spirit unlike any other.
‘Blaize brought something irreplaceable to every stage he graced. An unguarded joy, a deep and unmistakable authenticity, and a pride in his Blackness that was worn openly, beautifully, and without apology. He played his violin boldly, and always with passion. He lived the same way.
‘To have shared some of the world’s finest concert halls with him was a privilege we will not forget.’
Blaize’s artistry, energy, and commitment to his craft made a lasting impact on audiences, collaborators, and students alike. His contribution to the cultural life of the UK, and to the global musical community, will not be forgotten.
Our thoughts are with Blaize’s family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time. He will be deeply missed.
