Celebrating RNCM Engage West Cumbria
Earlier this week we joined over 100 children in Workington to celebrate the mid-point of RNCM Engage West Cumbria – our groundbreaking initiative expanding access to high‑quality music education and supporting the next generation of musicians and educators.
Through hands‑on workshops, performances, and close collaboration with Cumbria Music Hub, local schools, and community partners, this groundbreaking five-year project is helping young people discover their potential and build skills that can take them further.

Numerous staff and students from our new Master of Education programme were involved in the event – held at Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre on Monday 2 March – helping to develop the future music education workforce by refining their teaching practice, gaining real‑world experience, and working directly with young learners and local partners.
Made possible by a transformational philanthropic gift from the Benny Walker Charitable Trust, RNCM Engage West Cumbria is responding directly to the needs of local communities, and aims to ensure that every young person can explore and enjoy music, regardless of background or circumstance.
