Finalists of the RNCM James Mottram International Piano Competition Announced
The RNCM James Mottram International Piano Competition (JMIPC) has been taking place at the RNCM this week, and the finalists in both the Junior (under 19) and Senior (19-25) Categories have now been announced.
Chinese pianists ZiHui Song, Hao Zi Yoh and YiLei Hao will compete in tomorrow’s Junior Concerto Final for the chance to win £4000 and a performance with the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Pianists through to Saturday’s Senior Concerto Final, which is presented by Classic FM’s Jamie Crick, are Victoria Vassilenko, who studies at Queen Sofía College of Music, Hin Yat Tsang, from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and Yale University’s Lee Dionne. They will compete for £10,000, professional engagements and a management contract.
All six pianists will perform their chosen work from a shortlist of concertos by Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg, Liszt, Mozart and Schumann, and will be accompanied by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Hannu Lintu.
Once again the competition has the support of the RLPO and media partner Classic FM, which will record the Senior Concerto Final, to be broadcast on Monday 10 December at 8pm in the Full Works Concert with Jane Jones. The JMIPC has also recently been admitted into the World Federation of International Music Competitions.
