Kathryn Stott awarded King’s Medal for Music
Internationally acclaimed pianist and RNCM Professor of Piano Kathryn Stott has been awarded The King’s Medal for Music for 2024, an honour personally approved by King Charles III.
The announcement was made following the convening of a newly reformed music committee chaired by the Master of The King’s Music, Errollyn Wallen, who praised Kathryn as an ‘outstanding and deserving’ recipient whose influence extends far beyond the concert stage.

Kathryn enjoyed a distinguished 46‑year performing career from 1978 to 2024 and is widely celebrated for her artistic versatility and her long‑standing partnership with cellist Yo‑Yo Ma. Alongside her international performing achievements and conservatoire teaching, she supports emerging artists through her work with Young Sounds UK and The Countess of Munster Musical Trust.
Reacting to the award, Kathryn said she was ‘deeply honoured’ and hoped the recognition would inspire young musicians to pursue creative lives. She added that she was grateful not only for the acknowledgement of her artistic career but also for her commitment to nurturing new talent.
The King’s Medal for Music, established in 2005, is presented annually to a musician or group who has made a major impact on the UK’s musical life.
