Ravi Gupta appointed RNCM Chair of Governors
We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Ravi Gupta as our new Chair of Governors, commencing in January 2021.
After completing a Mathematics and Management degree at Leeds University in 1993, Ravi spent four years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he qualified as a chartered accountant. In 1997 he joined the Global Advisory division of Rothschild & Co as an Analyst, becoming a Managing Director in 2007, Partner in 2013 and Co-Head of the UK business in 2018. Ravi also Co-Heads the Global Industrials sector of the company.
During his career with Rothschild & Co, one of the world’s leading independent financial advisory groups, Ravi has advised UK and international clients on over 200 transactions across a range of sectors. His extensive experience is centred on mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity raisings, and strategy.
A strong supporter of music and the arts, Ravi has a keen interest in opera and theatre and is currently training as an Indian classical musician. He will replace Nicholas Prettejohn, who steps down after three terms in post.
Ravi said: ‘It is a privilege to be joining the Royal Northern College of Music as Chair of Governors. The RNCM is an inspirational conservatoire with a rich history of promoting and influencing music both nationally and internationally. I have long admired its passion for exceptional teaching, learning and performance opportunities, and its commitment to supporting artists throughout their development and career is second to none. As an amateur Indian musician myself, I appreciate the extensive resources available to students, teachers and renowned performers. It is a true honour to be entrusted with this position, and I look forward to playing my part to inspire the next generation of musicians.’
Professor Linda Merrick, RNCM Principal, added: ‘I am thrilled that Ravi has agreed to join us in January as our new Chair of Governors. His wealth of experience within the financial sector, together with his clear passion for music, is the perfect fit for the RNCM as we look to an exciting future and the launch of our new Strategic Plan. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Nick personally for the outstanding contribution he has made to the RNCM over the past 10 years. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with him and the College owes him an enormous debt of gratitude.’
