RNCM Alumni Shortlisted for British Composer Award

RNCM composers Gavin Higgins (2005), Andy Scott (1989) and Emily Howard (2003) have each been shortlisted for a 2012 British Composer Award alongside Royal Manchester College of Music graduate Sir Harrison Birtwistle.  

Gavin’s What Wild Ecstasy has been shortlisted in the Stage Works category; Andy’s Spirit of Mingus in the Wind Band or Brass Band category; and Sir Harrison’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in the Orchestral category. Emily’s Mesmerism for Piano and Chamber Orchestra has been shortlisted for a Making Music Award.

A total of 39 composers were shortlisted by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) and the winners of each category will be unveiled at a ceremony at Goldsmiths’ Hall on Monday 3 December.
