RNCM pianists win international prizes

Congratulations to Madeleine Brown, winner of this year’s Bromsgrove International Musician’s Competition.

Described by Peter Donohoe CBE as having ‘the potential to become a major voice in the classical music world‘, Madeleine is establishing herself as one of the most exciting young pianists of this generation.

Currently studying for an MMus with Helen Krizos, the 23-year-old, who performs in the final of the RNCM Gold Medal Classical Final on Saturday 21 June, secured the £4000 first prize following the finalists’ concert on Saturday 31 May, receiving an additional £1000 to support future concert engagements.

The Bromsgrove International Musicians’ Competition began in 1981 as an international platform for talented young instrumentalists and singers between the ages of 17 and 25 (28 in the case of singers). Since then, many outstanding finalists have found The Bromsgrove a stepping stone to national and international recognition and success. Previous RNCM winners include cellist Mikhail Nemtsov, saxophonist Anthony Brown, and double bassist Toby Hughes.

Congratulations also go to fellow pianist Yuxin Pu, who won the £1500 second prize (donated by the Greenham Trust) at the Sheepdrove International Piano Competition last month. Established by the Sheepdrove Trust in 2009, this competition is open to candidates aged 26 and under from the UK’s eight major music colleges.
